Tips for verifying your identity with Experian

In order to purchase a copy of your credit report or view a credit report that's been shared with you, you'll first need to verify your identity with Experian. To do this, you'll need to first provide your personal details, and then answer a few security questions based on the details of your credit history.

If you're running into trouble after entering in your personal information:

  • Make sure you’ve entered the address most likely associated with your credit report
  • Make sure you're entering your Social Security Number, not a TIN.
  • Make sure to include your full middle name.
  • If you have a freeze on your credit file, lift it at https://www.experian.com/freeze/center.html

If you're getting past the first step but aren't able to move past the security questions, that generally means that the answers you're submitting don't match up with what Experian has in your credit history. If you're not sure where you might be going wrong, you may want to contact Experian support for assistance. When you talk to them, you’ll want to let them know you’re trying to verify your identity with them, but you’re running into trouble with the security questions. They should be able to pull up your report so you can go over the details of your report and confirm that the data on it is correct.
